On our cruise on the Glory, we visited Hell on Grand Cayman. You'll notice I was not influenced by the setting.....I'm the angel! Oddly enough, Hell is a post office there and refers to the area of volcanic rock. Artists have placed demon statuary throughout it as well. Fun pictures to scrap!

Okay, so I'm on a roll......two layouts in two days! Woo Hoo! These pictures were taken on our vaction to Ft. Lauderdale last year. Since I'm heading back there in a couple of weeks, I thought I'd better start scrappin' them!~ Used an eclectic mix of papers, cut the scrap borders off of a couple pieces and used them (that's why it's called scrappin'! ) added a little rick rack and a title cut with Life's a Beach, then embossed with a Sizzix folder. Pretty easy, but I like it!

My Return to Scrapbooking

I've made some new decisions in my life........some because I want to and some because I have to. My scrappin' is an area that has definitely needed to be re-evaluated. I've had some health issues which have made scrappin' difficult at best, and due to this, I've resigned from all of my team memberships. But even more than that, I found myself not wanting to scrap from the pressure of having to make a certain project....by a certain due date...and good enough that the bloggin' world would like it. Compound that with not feeling well....and I just quit scrappin'. But I miss it.....so I'm back to doing it again. At least scrapbook pages. Cards are too much time....and I figure people just throw them away. With my limited time available to scrap, I'm trying to make it count so I'm doing scrapbook pages. And I'm doing whatever I want- good, bad, messy - whatever makes me happy. I might even use stickers!

Here's my latest project - my cute little daughter Kati. I was inspired by a wonderful sketch 124 from the Scrappiest. Used a bunch of random paper I had around, cut the background flower shapes from Paisley, added Thickers for the title, and used floss, glitter, and some blinged out ribbon for accents. I was so excited about scrappin' my way - I'm headed downstairs to do some more.

UFC Convention

I haven't scrapped in forever. I haven't made cards....or anything at all for that matter. The reasons are numerous, but I still really miss it. My dear husband was looking at photos and asked me to please scrap the ones of him and my son at the UFC convention last spring. Yep, you heard me right....husband asked me to scrap. Now normally, he hates this hobby....and teases me about it to no end. So his request got me up and moving.....and here's the layout. DCWV paper..rock star stack.....added MS star border punches. Lettering is Cricut Keystone (terribly underappreciated in my opinion....it's great for plain ole' letters....) triple layered.....and George Stars. Simple, but I like it....hope hubby does too~

Altun-Ha Belize

Trying to scrap those cruise pictures from last spring. This is us at the Altun-Ha Mayan ruins in Belize. I learned an important lesson.....don't put your focal point picture on the line in a double layout. I cut that picture 3 times! Anyway, used DCWV Mocha Stack papers (I really like that collection....) Cricut ZooBalloo and Pooh Font for lettering, scalloped circles from Storybook, MS punch and ribbon, and a Tim Holz Alterations embossing folder.

Sketches in Thyme has a fantastic sketch this week.....and I thought it would work well with some of my Las Vegas pictures from this spring. Base is Core'dinations cardstock......sanded with some argyle Tim Holtz grungeboard under it randomly...then inked with Versa ink....then sanded some more. Marquee is Bo Bunny.....strip is a piece of Stampin' Up paper. Behind the picture is a piece of scrap paper I had....trimmed with decorative edging blade on the paper trimmer. Title is Thickers attached to Tim Holtz grungeboard that was inked with Versa ink...more grungeboard in the corner with some distressed squares attached. They are embellished with some pieces of clear sticker border, cut to size. Few strips of Target ribbon and buttons to finish it.

Stingray City

Really trying to work on those cruise photos.....and these pictures fit into the Sketches in Thyme challenge for this week. We went to Stingray City on the Caymen Islands, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences of my life. (Not my daughters....check out her face!) We only have 2 pictures though...because of the water. I used Imaginisce paper, Thickers, painted chipboard, Martha Stewart border punches, and Making Memories Ribbon on this along with a little blingy arrow I had laying around. The stingrays were hard....no Cricut stingrays.....what to do???? Well, I found a sewing pattern.....trimmed it out on double cardstock (one side glittery white/one grey), and added details with my Sharpie. Lots of Versa Ink here there and everywhere and that's it!

Loved the sketch at the Scrappiest this week....and I really need to scrap the cruise we took in April. The photo is us going across a swinging bridge in Honduras...in a monkey park. The paper and ribbon is Imaginesce. Although the brown stripe ribbon is Offray. Title is Thickers, Amercian Crafts stickers, and Mickey Font. The tag is from Tags, Bags, and Boxes and the little flower is an EK Success punch with an Imaginesce rub-on. The little monkeys are wooden cut outs from Michaels....not what I usually put on scrapbook pages but they were just sooooo cute. Isla Roatan is American Crafts stickers.

Cutest Little Pumpkin in the Patch

The theme this week at Fantabulous Cricut is Leaves. I knew I had a cute picture of my littlest nephew with a pumpkin that would be perfect for this one. Used paper from DCWV Indian Summer....and a large, flocked houndstooth marquee cut from Recollections. Title is computer generated...then mounted to Storybook marquee banners (pop dotted the layers.) The bear is handpieced....I had a clip art image I loved and I re-created him with George, Paper Doll Dress Up, and added a Stretch Your Imagination pumpkin. Cuttlebugged the pumpkin with distressed stripes....made another I attached to a Paper Doll Dress Up fence...and sprinkled some silk leaves all around. This is for the Paper Playtimes Pumpkins or Spider Webs challenge and Frosted Designs Fall/Halloween challenge.

Gingerbread Men!

Haven't had time for layouts, although I wish I did. Been too busy making cards. But this set of pictures my sister took was tuggin' at brain, and I just had to scrap them.

Used JoAnn Fabrics Peppermint Forest for the papers and DCWV solid cardstock. Used the Martha Stewart snowflake and Joy punch and my new Purple Cow paper trimmer to get wavy edges on everything. Added little gingerbread men cut on Blackout off of From My Kitchen.....enhanced with various buttons, sharpies, ink, and buttons. A couple of them have a MS bow attached. Added some blingy rhinestones to the snowflakes. Title is Thickers....white felt that I colored with pink Studio G ink....and the MEN is from a Target $1 set of chipboard. Used Wright's white rick rack to tie everything together. I love when you can use so many pictures on a layout.

Butter Beer!

We got to visit Orlando last month....mainly to see the new Harry Potter World at Islands of Adventure, Universal Florida. They serve ButterBeer there....a butterscotch/cool whip concoction that is wonderful! These are my kids drinking it.....sloppily I might add!!

I used a cut out piece of cardstock from Cloud 9 with stars and moons over inked white cardstock. Added some teal and brown doublesided paper (just had one piece laying around...don't even know who it is by) trimmed with some teal rick rack. Added an interesting piece of paper with gold/pewter elements I got in a scraps trade with a friend and lettering is gold foiled chipboard. The Butter Beer is From My Kitchen, salt and pepper shakers cut on shadow, tops removed....embossed with dots folder and glazed with gold glitter glaze. The swirl is from the same cartridge, ice cream soda, embossed with swirls, and covered with clear glitter glaze. Stars are from George, on another piece of scrap paper. Wrapped them in twine and added a button or two......pop dotted them.

Inspiration for this layout was from the Sketch Friday at Practical Scrappers this week. Wonderful creation by Ann-Katrin!

Feed Me!

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Busch Gardens Tampa where the hightlight was feeding a giraffe. We had so much fun! My little giraffe on this layout is handpieced from a My ScrapChick pattern. Printed it - colored with pencils and gamsol - cut and put it together. Added some fibers for the mane. Paper is DCWV. Lettering is Pooh Font (Marker), and it's embossed with the Seeing Spots folder. Leaf border at the bottom is from Life's a Beach. The sketch is this week's fun one at Sketches in Thyme....and this layout works for Frosted Designs Circle of Rick Rack challenge too.

This week is the 1 year Anniversary at Practical Scrappers. I had the joy of serving 2 terms on their design team, and it was so much fun! That is a great group of girls, and the talent there is amazing. To celebrate, they asked all their former team members to create a special project based on "1". I chose a 1 photograph layout.

The picture is printed at 8 x 10, trimmed a little- kind of randomly. The paper is from DCWV Spring 2009 collection.......cut a rectangle 7 x 10, one 4 x 5, and one in embossed yellow cardstock(it's snow dots...but the flowers match the paper, and you don't notice the occasional flake) cut at 3 x 5. The bottom border is from that collection too....just cut and added some "blingy" red gems. The sharks are from Life's a Beach.....cut on border at 3 1/2"....I cut 2....backed the eyes with white paper....added silver metallic ink....added some white Jelly Roll details....and some black eyes. Layered the border up with pop dots. The sentiment is from H2O...cut twice (1 yellow, 1 red stripes) at 4 1/2" and glued them in an offset pattern after I doodled dots on the yellow. Added some Fiskars ZingZ splashes here and there....and finished it off with a pop dotted flower, cut from the DCWV paper.

One of our favorite things to do on the Simmons' family vacations is eat ribs. Wanted to scrap those dinners....and the sketch at Stuck on U Sketches was just right for it. Used papers by Anna Griffin, KI Memories Bloom, and Making Memories. Cardstock is DCWV. Pig is Create a Critter (5") with an Everyday Paper Doll hat (RDS 3 1/2" - embossed with checkerboard folder) Added details with a Sharpie and some white detailing paint. Apron pockets are the bottom of the MS cupcake punch. Added some ric rack to it, and the title is From My Kitchen, cut at 3 1/2". This project works for Practical Scrappers use different items: 1) cardstock 2) patterned paper 3) ric rack 4) die cuts 5) embossing 6) detailing pens 7) punch......could add 8) pop dots and 9) glue!

Beach 2010

Well, I haven't made a scrapbook page in a LONG time. I have made lots of cards....and even started my own challenge blog, Jitterbuggin', but no scrapbook pages. A recent family vacation on wonderful Edisto Island, SC was just the push I needed to start scrappin' again. Other incentives were a great sketch at Sketches in Thyme and a vacation challenge at My Sheri Crafts.

I used a sketch at Jitterbuggin' to create the title block with Life's a Beach and some old 2008 DCWV Summer Stack paper.....ribbon, buttons, little embossing, etc. Details for the title block are on my card blog, Love, Laughter, and Creations. (click here) The picture is of my 91 year old grandmother....we were pleasantly surprised when she not only came on vacation with us but came down to the beach to sit as well. The palm trees around her are from Life's a Beach as well. Paper is DCWV Animal Crackers and some glitter paper from Target's $1 bin along with the DCWV Summer 2008 stack. Ric-Rac to finish it off. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of more scrappin'!

Craig and Kati body surfing at Edisto Beach! I had this great teal and lime paper that said, "Just Add Water" and that was the inspiration for this layout. Title is from Pooh and Friends (marker) shadowed with Gold Metallic paper. I cut out designs from the flower patterned paper to embellish pictures and the wave border is from Life's a Beach. I used it to make a few more little flower embellishments too. For the sun, I took the cut from Life's a Beach....added some George circles....and lots of glitter! For Fantabulous Cricut's Beach Challenge!!

My National Scrapbooking Day entry to a great sketch at Sketches! by Tamara. I used paper from a package I got at Big Lots (a whole pad for $3) and my MS eyelet and Drippy Goo punch. The little bear is a pattern by My Scrap Chick with the honey pot from Pooh and Friends added to it. Sentiment is stickers I had laying around. Tied it off with a piece of light blue raffia.

The NSD challenge #12 at My Pink Stamper was to create a scrapbook layout. Fun, fun when Create a Critter is your new favorite cartridge! For this one, I used the snake, snail, and puppy dog from that cartridge...paper from a Hobby Lobby Basics stack, and some rick rack along with stickers for the title. Fun and cute.

I love, love, love the new Create a Critter cartridge. I made a frog and dragonfly card, and it turned out so well, I decided to spin it into a layout. Frog is 5" backed in black....cheeks are an MS punch. Dragonflies are 3". I adore green and love the way the colors and polka dots and rick rack blend on this one. Title is Pooh Font.....Marker. Now I've got find a picture.......

The challenge at Practical Scrappers this week is floss/fiber/ribbon. I love all of these, but sometimes find them hard to use. Check out the site for some great ideas from the Design Team.

I chose to scrap a picture of me and hubby as we sailed away from Miami. I had some great papers from a Travel themed pad....cut them into strips for the background. The plain cardstock has leaves embroidered onto it........then I added some jungle leaves from my Cricut (Life's a Beach). To frame out the double matted picture, I used some great variegated yarn which picked up all the colors of the paper. Title is Thickers.

We missed Easter at my mom's house because we were on a cruise. But that doesn't stop me from getting some pictures, thanks to my sister. Here are my little niece and nephew hunting Easter eggs. Used KI Bloom papers for everything......added some crumpled flowers, some Stampin' Up border punches, and little hand pieced bunny and chick.

I've made a layout of these pictures 3 times...can't get it the way I want. The challenge for The Pink Elephant is to make-over a layout...so had to use this one. For my creation, I took apart a cupcake chipboard album and decoupaged one of the "pages." I used patterned paper on the bottom, embossed (Swirls) white paper for the icing, and circle punch (Martha Stewart) for the cherry. Glazed the icing and cherry with glitter glaze and added some beads for sprinkles. Tied some blue ribbon around the base. The other cupcakes are Jolee's stickers I've had forever. Paper is Doodlebug (stripes) and Love, Else (the brown which is embossed with cupcakes...) Added rick rack...and Thickers for the title. Pictures are my niece on her first birthday. And I think I finally like this one!

Sketches by Tamara Guest Designer - All Boy

I was asked to be a guest designer at Sketches! by Tamara this week - how exciting!!! The second Tuesday of the month is always a recipe challenge and mine was to use blue (easy), buttons, and brads. The blue made me think of little boys, and I just got the most precious picture of my sweet little nephew Bo. Bo is All Boy- and there's my theme.

I used New Arrival and Everyday Paperdolls for the little vehicles on this layout. The sketch was a card sketch from Totally Papercrafts, but it translated very well into a layout. The paper is from Oriental Trading. Buttons and brads added the details to the little vehicles. The title is painted chipboard.

Daddy's Little Girls - The Return of Chirper Challenge

Chirper Challenge is back!!! Dany Poupet, a very talented scrapper from France, is now heading the design team, and there are going to be some wonderful fun challenges coming up! Check it out!!

My DT submission for the *new* Chirper Challenge is "Daddy's Little Girls". We were asked to use chocolate brown and pink....lovely combo. I chose to scrap a vintage photo of my mom, grandfather, and aunt. I love taking vintage photos and using them in modern layouts....neat feel. I cut a large (10") flower using the button feature in Paisley. Added a 7 1/2" circle from George...punched holes...and laced brown ribbon through it. Added two 6 1/2" semicircles (George) and adorned the seam with an EK Success punch strip (Daisy Chain) and some ivory paper ribbon (Oriental Trading.) Embellished the flower with more flowers (George), buttons, and butterflies (MS punch.) The picture has Thickers photo corners added. The journaling is computer printed on an ivory paper strip in brown...framed with more of that Daisy Chain punch. Title is American Crafts Remarks stickers for "Daddy's" and "Little"....."girls" is Doodlebug stickers.

AWW.....Scrappin' Disney!

A year later, I'm starting to scrap those Disney pictures. I chose one to use for my DT submission for Practical Scrappers. The challenge this week is to use something you've had in your stash for over a year....well, you know we've all got that. Hop in and play along!!

I used Prima's Dude collection for the paper, with a generic black/white polka dot background. I love the way this paper just does the work for you. Used the Goofy from Mickey and Friends, cut at 6", and the title is Thickers.

After a year, I'm finally working hard on my Disney album. Paper Popsicles has a challenge to use vacation themes this week, and it was the right inspiration. The sketch at Stuck on U Sketches this week seemed perfect for the title page. Easy....just some Disney paper (background is Doodlebug), lots of bright color photo mats, some decorative edge scissors, and lots of odd/ends black stickers. Added a Mickey and Minnie (cut at 3 1/2") for embellishments. "Disney" is from Mickey Font.

Pretty as a Daisy

Ann-Katrin made this week-end's sketch at Practical Scrappers, and what a beauty it is. At first, I wanted to make a sun, but then it struck me as looking like a daisy....and off I went to create. The daisy is from Walk in My Garden, daisy cut at 8" 9" 10"....I cut the petals apart, inked them, and fit them onto an 8" oval (thanks George!). The pictures are framed on square nestabilites and I added some dimensional daisies with some "blingy" centers. Title is American Crafts Thickers and a few other leftover stickers thrown in. Paper is Urban Prairie. Pictures are of Kati going to her 8th grade dance last spring.

Mistletoe Memories

Challenge day at Practical Scrappers and this week's focus is ink/chalks. I really wanted to create faux burnt edges with inks on a piece of music and the old picture of me fit in quite well. This is probably my favorite baby picture of myself and my cousin Scott. We were 2 and 4, and obviously, he wasn't too enthralled with me.

To make the music, I printed "Silent Night" out on plain ivory paper, tore around the edges, and attacked it with my ink. I used 4 shades of brown. Starting with the lightest shade, I lightly rubbed the ink toward the midde....then I did the same wiith the next shade, stopping about an inch for the center. Then I chose the next darkest shade, concentrating on the sides and blending toward the middle. Finished with a dark (almost black shade) of brown around the torn edge. Paper is Debbie Mumm...holly leaves are Stretch Your Imagination cut at 2 1/2" and enhanced with MS glitter. Title is written on an inked Stampin' Up marquee punch.

Parental Advisory - Stuck on U Sketches

Loved the sketch at Stuck on U Sketches this week. I've had this picture of DH for a long while...wanted to do "He was too old to rock 'n' roll. But, when I saw this great Parental Advisory cut on Indie Art, I couldn't resist. Added stars from that cartridge as well. The guitars and all the paper are from DCWV's rock star pack. Added some MS ribbon at the borders. Almost everything (all three types of guitars, title, etc.) are hand-cut from the patterned paper.

Sketch time at Practical Scrappers and there is a fantastic one there from our very own Heidi! Loved the sketch and immediately thought of this crazy picture of Craig. And what better to use on a layout of a guy than The Dude collection from Prima. I have bought every pack of this paper I can find....if I ever run out, I don't know what I will do. The paper does the work for you. Cut out some embellishments from the paper, added some Aster flowers from Walk In My Garden, added a big oval frame, entwined with embroidery floss, and a few brads, buttons, and a star punch. The ribbon is from the Dude collection, a great secret sister surprise (How did she know how much I loved this set?!) Title is American Crafts Remarks stickers.

Flower Power

The challenge at Practical Scrappers this week is stamps. I chose to use a cute little digi stamp bee from Cute Creations Designs. I made a page full of these little guys, colored them with watercolor pencil, markers, and glitter glaze....then cut them out. I used my MS Loopy Loo punch for borders around the pictures, title, and papers. The flowers are made from the button feature (perfume bottle) on the Paisely cartridge. I cut 2 of each, staggered and layer with pop dots. Details are with my white gel pen. Title is stickers. Paper is DCWV Butterflies and Blossoms.

Still scrappin' those Disney pics! For this one, I used the sketch at Stuck on U Sketches, well....I sorta used the sketch....I cannot follow sketches no matter how hard I try!! The basic layout of paper is the SOUS sketch anyway.

I used PDDU for the dinosaur and palm trees as well as the bone (aged with ink) for the title bar. Used Thickers for the title, and the little triceratops was hand pieced by me from a clip art image (I printed it out and cut from it.)

Bath Time

Here is my version of the sketch at Stuck on U Sketches this week. You were supposed to use the sketch and red or pink. I had an old picture of my daughter and niece in the bathtub and enhanced it with my own bathtub from New Arrival. I added a little handpieced teddy bear to the tub and some glittery bubbles too. The title is from New Arrival as well. The girls didn't want to be embarassed so I used George circles, enhanced with glitter glaze, to make a bunch of bubbles to cover the picture.

My Grandmother-Practical Scrappers Flower Challenge

My grandmother will turn 91 this month so I chose her as my subject for the Practical Scrappers challenge this week. The challenge was to use flowers. I started with a vintage photo of Grandma at 20, found a great older sketch from SOUS, and chose Sassafras Lass Life is Beautiful-Felicity paper. I thought the bold purple and red were a great match with the old picture. The flowers were hand pieced with different cuts from Walk In My Garden and George. I added a rhinestone to the center of each and used some glitter glaze to some of the petals for sparkle. To finish the sketch, I framed the picture with an 8" circle, purple ribbon, and a metallic black border cut with the MS doily punch.

Pirates of the Gift Shop

To get my mind off of all the snow, I've been scrappin' Disney pictures (finally!) My crew loved to go around trying on different Mouse ears...these pics were at the Pirates of the Caribbean. I used the pirate map from PDDU, cut at 10" real size, inked well, for the background. Matted the pics..added a skull and crossbones from Indie Art and a title from stickers. I like this one....and it only took 30 minutes!

Tigger-ific

There is a wonderful sketch posted at Practical Scrappers this week, designed by the amazing Ann-Katrin. I used it to finally scrap some of last year's Disney photos. We took our kids once as children and then again as teenagers, and it is so amazing the different things you do. I had great pictures of Kati with Tigger on both trips and wanted to make a "Then and Now" layout.

This is my first attempt at a character although I have owned the cartridge for a while. It went together really easily...probably because he is cut at 5". We found the layered, glittery Kathryn sticker while shopping a while back. Edged out the borders with MS ribbon.

The Stuck on U Sketches design for January 29 really caught my eye as a beach layout. As I am behind on vacation photos (as usual), I pulled out the Edisto pictures and scrapped away. I used a 9" circle from George as the background, trimmed with rick rack. Added some lime green ribbon and Imaginesce flowers with button centers. The little sandcastle was a sticker from the "closet." Title is Pooh Font (marker) and New Arrival. All papers are from 2009 DCWV Spring Stacks.

The little owl is cut from Paisley, and the title is from Pooh and Friends. Used MS scalloped circle punch for all the little circle pieces. Embellished with ribbon, buttons, a few rhinestones, and a little bit of paint.

The challenge at Frosted Designs this week is to use chipboard. I took a chipboard ticket from an album, decoupaged paper and letters onto it, added some star and brads. The paper is cut in a semi-circle, edged with different knotted ribbons. Background paper is Prima Dude collection (my last piece....must find more!!) The stars are George o's and stars,layered with pop dots and with little sticker 3's on them (one for each 3 pts shot Kati hit that game..) Wednesday is my reveal day at Practical Scrappers, and this week's feature is patterned paper (not a tough one for me..........I LOVE patterned paper!) I made a sweet little layout of my niece using Paisley. Following a past sketch at Stuck on U Sketches, I used many different papers and backed the whole layout with a lace cut cardstock with flowers and bugs. The aqua flower is one of the button cuts...added George ovals in yellow polka dots and some bling. The polka dot flowers are layers of the same button cut, and the ladybug is from Paisley too! I love the set of pictures my husband and I took of us while at the Waterfront Park in Charleston, SC on our anniversary last May. I've tried to scrap them before and ended up throwing the page away. (The only layout I've ever given up on......) When looking at them again, I realized they fit the "Live, Laugh, Love" title really well, and so printed in black and white, they became this layout.

At Practical Scrappers this week, the theme is embossing. And I used this layout as an opportunity to do some of that. The blue flowers are from Walk in My Garden, embossed with Swiss Dots, and rhinestone added. The purple metallic flower is from Storybook.

The pink flower is white and pink flocked circles made with an MS scalloped circle punch. The orange flower is from Walk in My Garden with pop dots, embossing with stripes and swirls, prima flower, rhinestone, and white doodling added.

The grey strip of paper behind is punched with MS eyelet border punch. "Live" is from Opposites Attract, "laugh" is Paisley, and "Love" is New Arrival. Accent pieces are a little heart punch from the Dollar Tree. I think that is the most cartridges/punches I've ever used in one project!

Kati's first home game....and first win! Used a great sketch from Glitz Designs, posted at Practical Scrappers. Paper is from the Paper Studio....DCWV cut cardstock. Little Kati is made from Everyday Paper Dolls, cut at 4". The little basketball is Karen Foster. The title is Opposites Attract and felt Thickers. Little starbursts are an MS punch cut out of silver metallic foil...enhanced with black buttons. Writing is computer generated...cut...and inked.

Kati is playing varsity basketball this year and asked me to make a scrapbook page for each of her games. I am behind.....this is the first! The sketch at Stuck on U Sketches really seemed to fit these pictures....if I flipped it....and rotated...and basically took a lot of creative license with it. :) The paper is Sassafras Lass and Creative Imaginations for the words. I love when the paper does the work for you. I'm not nuts about "store-bought" embellies but Kati chose this little puffy vinyl basketball and asked me to use it. Used George for the circles and the stars. I will probably add journaling to the center section later, but it must be approved by Dad.

The challenge at Practical Scrappers this week is bling! I used a cute picture of my niece from several years ago....added some DCWV paper and a flowered piece of Me and My Big Ideas. The bling is enameled pearl drops, rhinestones on a roll, crystals, and lots of George flowers with rhinestone centers. Title is stickers from Target; the letters already had rhinestones on them. Finished it off with a piece of polka dot ribbon for trim.

There is a wonderful sketch posted on the Cricut Layout forum this week, and the minute I saw it I thought of these pictures from my grandmother's 90th birthday party last February. Opened my Storybook cartridge for this one and am I ever glad I did....wow! I hate the font, but it doesn't matter....will definitely get my money out of this one. Used Storybook for everything except the big heart flower (Sizzix in the Cuttlebug) and the little pink butterflies (MS punch). Added little pearls (in honor of my grandmother....Pearl) and little rhinestones here and there.

Sunflowers - Practical Scrappers Button Challenge and Just Buggin' 18 - Shadow Cuts

At Practical Scrappers, the challenge for this week is to use buttons.....my favorite thing. Used one of my favorite pictures of Kati, taken on her first birthday. Using that great denim patchwork dress for inspiration, the layout kind of made itself. I used squares of different blue/brown/yellow prints and double layered them with pop dots. Added a sunflower frame and border as well. The sunflower is from Walk in My Garden......cut at shadow, regular, and blackout. I put pop dots between the layers fo the bigger sunflowers. Everything is inked with Cat's Eye Chestnut Roan. Used buttons for centers....on the big sunflowers, I used the center from the cartridge cut in brown. Added some chipboard swirlies here and there..........and some leaves for filler. This was my first time using my new Expression.....and how great it was to put "fill the page" for 60 leaves!

I took 2 old poloroid pictures, scanned them, and reprinted them to make this one. That young lady in the fake fur is me.....all of 6 years old. I used Daisy D's paper kit Winter Fun. The yellow card is embossed with my Cuttlebug and Snow Dots folder. The trees are Doodlecharms, cut at regular and shadow, inked, glittered, and painted with dimensional paint (trunks). At Practical Scrappers, we were supposed to create a layout of one of our Christmas traditions. I chose the annual Christmas photo of the kids. I used EveryDay Paper Dolls for the Camera....cut on real dial size 3 in silver foil and black. Cut apart the silver to use as accent pieces. Trimmed with a white gel pen....and rhinestones. The little mouse is from Animal Kingdom....face is layered....and I added some circles for the ears. I cut the legs/arms apart and reattached them. Face is inked and doodled and pop dotted. I put a little Santa hat from Pooh and Friends on him, cut from red foil with white trim. The cheese is the party hat from Doodlecharms. Title is Stickers (so glad to use up some of those.....too many at Big Lots!!) Added some Favorite Findings metallic snowflakes here and there....and some of that great red rhinestone bling!

There is a great week-end sketch at Practical Scrappers, and it made me think of this picture Kati took of herself and Emme. Paper is K and Company and Me and My Big Ideas. Cardstock is DCWV. Added ribbon, rickrack, punched edging, and buttons. The ice cream cones are concentric shapes of 2 1/2", 3 1/2", 4 1/2" from Stretch Your Imagination. I added little pompons and beads to embellish and embossed the cones with the Argyle folder. Attached photo corners to the picture and attached the photo and ice cream cones with pop dots. Title is Remarks stickers in brown.

The challenge at Practical Scrappers this week is to use stitching. Hmmm....never done that.......so I called on my mom, the seamstress. She practiced on some cardstock........I created a barebones layout with some great American Crafts Guy's Day paper...and told mom where to sew on it. Added a great picture of my sister, Serita and some paisley embellishments from Stretch Your Imagination. Added some little blingy rhinestones, pop dots, and a sticker title. All in all, I like the look of the stitching and may be calling on my mom again in the near future.

I've had a great scrappin' week-end.....accomplished lots of projects. This one was for the Sketchy Thursday Challenge this week....and the BINGO challenge at Practical Scrappers' online crop. Boy, has that ever been fun!

This is Michael on vacation this summer. Used Creative Imaginations paper. Printed the text in a circle...cut it out with wavy edged scissors. Added three concentric circles to the middle, layered with pop dots, and added 2 1/2" flip flops from Life's a Beach. Embellished them with a daisy punch and rhinestones. Used MS punch for the layers and topped off with ribbon from Target $1 bin and a couple of buttons. Added a sequin Jolee's applique and some 1 1/2" flip flops.

Bicycle Built for Two

I've always loved this picture of my mom and aunt riding their bicycles. I had this great teal/aqua/coral paper and loved the way it looked against the black/white picture. Cut the flowers out of the paper and randomly pop dotted them....added rhinestones. Tucked away some paper flowers here and there. The coral background is torn, inked, and crinkled. Finished everything off with some layered ribbon/trim. what to do for the title....but there in my stash was this great metal "precious". I'm really happy with this one.

Kati Finds Nemo! Practical Scrappers Design Team -Acrylic Paint

Over at Practical Scrappers, the challenge for this week is using acrylic paint. For this layout, I used the paper bag/smoosh technique to paint a blue background on white cardstock. I used paper from DCWV Indian Summer paper stack for the rest of the background. Embellishments are from Life's a Beach. Seaweed is cut in regular and layers at 5" and 5 1/2" in light and dark green.......went over them with green dimensional paint. Glued the bottoms only so they would "flutter." Cut the fish border out at 2 1/2"....decorated with dimensional paint and glitter....separated....and hid them among the seawood.

The waves are LAB's wave border.....covered with an acrylic glaze with blue glitter in it. Then I went around the crests of the waves with some irridescent blue and silver glitter paint. Glued the bottoms only to get dimension. Nemo is a fabric applique I found in a clearance bin. Title is green Thickers and Mickey Font (2 1/2")

I loved the sketch at Sketchy Thursdays this week and this set of pictures of Craig and Dylan at the beach would work just right. Stuck on U Sketches had a wonderful sketch this week. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do....but it took until today for me to get some time to work on it. Used Imaginesce paper and black spider paper is Heidi Grace. The title is Imaginesce and SYI pumpkins. The circle is made from witch's hats (PDDU) and then filled in with little Halloween critters from PDDU and SYI pumpkins.

Boom Boom Pow + Practical Scrappers White core Cardstock Challenge

Practical Scrappers' challenge this week is to use white core cardstock........so out comes the DCWV. I used a pretty teal piece from Indian Summer as the background.....distressed the edges with sandpaper....added a teal patterned paper from the "stash" and took a piece of red from last year's Christmas stack....ripped the edges....and added a distressed star effect for the rest of the background. I placed chipboard stars of varying shapes under the cardstock and went over it with sandpaper. The sign is cut from George at 5 1/2" and 5"....added thickers and distressed the cardstock with sand paper. The "POW" is from Indie Art....cut at 4 1/2" in white and teal....distressed and inked with silver metallic ink....and cut the "POW!" out of silver metallic paper. Attached it with pop dots. The photo is matted with teal star paper. Found a green chipboard arrow I liked...so I covered it with some striped paper to match. Cut double stars from George in varying sizes....distressed them with more sandpaper....and layered with pop dots. Picture is "Boom Boom" Brown on Halloween! Halloween '09

My husband's family had a Halloween Bash this year. Here are the adults! Paper is a black polka dot glitter from DCWV. The borders are dimensional stickers from WalMart and the bottom paper is imaginesce....as is the rub-on title. I attached some of the pictures with pop dots for interest. The haunted house is PDDU, cut at 4 1/2" real dial size. I added black glittery paint to the windows...and put some little 1" PDDU ghosts in the house. Used silver metallic ink around the whole thing. Attached with pop dots.

Look WhoOo's 8! Tri-challenge

Tri-challenge time at Practical Scrappers (use 3 different ribbons), Frosted Designs (put an owl in your project), and Stuck on U Sketches (follow their sketch). This was a fun layout to do.....decided to use an old birthday picture of Kati....and the owl inspired the title: Look WhoOo's 8! Used Imaginesce paper (Cool Summer collection) and yellow DCWV cardstock. The "8" is from Mickey Font as well as "LOOK". The flowers are George, double cut and layered with pop dots. Attached a little birthday hat from Doodlecharms on the owls, who were cut from DCWV Fall Glitter stack (2008). Everything is inked (I need a case of Cat's Eye Chestnut Roan) and some "bling" was put on the "8"!

Fall Ribbon Tree

My first project for Practical Scrappers was to make a layout featuring 3 different ribbons. I adore ribbon anyway so this one was fun! I divided my 12 x 12 cardstock into three sections: in the first, I put vertical striped paper, the middle is a blue cardstock, and the third is horizontal striped. I used red rickrack as one border and a brown stitched ribbon as the other. I then added a moss green thin strip of ribbon down the middles of the patterned paper for interest and dimension. I cut an 8" tree from Stretch Your Imagination......added interest with a gold gel pen and 3 different colors of brown inks. I took bits of red, yellow, brown, and orange ribbon....folded them into "v" shapes and attached them to the tree for leaves....trimmed them out with buttons. Used the maple leaf from Stretch Your Imagination....cut on shadow and regular, in sizes ranging from 1 1/2" to 2 1/2".....gel pen and ink for definition and scattered them all around the left side of the page. And for Meg Beauchamp and Frosted Designs, I added a little sticker owl I had in my stash.

Made this layout of Kati last Halloween for the Practical Scrapper's Challenge which was to use decorative edge scissors. Paper is last years DCWV Fall stacks and the green spider paper is from Target. The little witch embellishment is from PDDU and Pooh and Friends. This is the first layout I've made without having a picture first. I was playing around the other day and made a cute little crow out of Doodlecharm's eggs for a card. I liked him so much, I decided to make a layout with him. Kati will have to get photographed at the Cedar Bluff Fall Festival in a couple of weeks.

The paper on this one is DCWV Green Stack. The title is Pooh Font (Marker), cut in yellow and inked with a mahogany ink. The fence is PDDU, detailed with a bronze gel pen and ink. We Are Family

While scrappin' vacation photos, I noticed that lots of them had a theme....of well, it looked like we mostly like each other (Imagine that....when 18 people go on vacation together!) I started by making the collage of 2 x 2 photos on an 8x8 piece of cardstock....added some 2 x 2 decorative squares for interest and framed it all with knotted ended ribbon which I wove over the pictures. Added some silver buttons as I was trying to put silver to make the layout cohesivie. Everything else on here is just cut by hand......fron 1 piece of doublesided cardstock! Added ribbon, buttons, and silver elements. Title is Opposites Attract and chipboard 9from Target).

Practical Scrappers has a contest this week where you are supposed to use at least 3 stickers. I love this layout of my family in the Bahamas. The title is stickers........the ocean is torn cardstock.......the sand is layered sandpaper. I hand cut and pieced the palm tree out of fun foam using a coloring book page pattern. Used black sharpie to add details. Added a sand castle sticker...a little fish with bubbles (stickers), and some real and sticker sea shells.

Our Little Lady Turns Two!

Emme Grace turned two this month and celebrated with a ladybug picnic. Too cute! Here is the layout of her birthday and some pictures of her delightful ladybug food.

Used a sketch from Scrapbooks, Etc. Ladybugs are Doodlecharms, cut at 1", 1 1/2", and 2". Added crystals for eyes and spots........little thread antennae. Title is Remarks stickers, chipboard for the Target $1 bin, and "2" is Alphalicious cut at 4 1/2" on regular and shadow....attached with pop dots. I used felt and paper flowers and attached buttons to the center.

We chartered a fishing boat last week on vacation. Had tons of fun, but all we caught were sharks. Used Life's a Beach for everything here.....shark at 4" (inked)........fish at 3". Lettering is 2" cut on silver metallic foil. The background is embossed striped paper, torn into waves, and pieced together. Added some bright blue ribbon trim, and used about a million pop dots.

Took my sweet little nephew Bo to the beach for the first time last week. He really didn't know what to think of the waves, but he kept squealing, "Wet Toes!" This layout is pretty minimalistic as far as my scrappin' tends to go, but I don't think it needs another thing. I used American Crafts paper.....cut it out to make waves....used some for the border too. The seagulls are from Life's a Beach....cut on 4"........layer in grey......regular cut in white. Used black sharpie, gold gel pen, and silver ink to make them look real. Bent one wing on each so the layout would have some dimension.

Here is Michael at Joe's Crab Shack while in Myrtle Beach. I printed the picture as an 8 x 10; then trimmed around him. I cut a large circle (used a dinner plate template) out of the polka dot paper and cut it in half; attached slightly offset. The wave rubon and whales come from the paper set, but I needed a bigger one. Cricut to the rescue.....whale is from Life's a Beach....added ink and used Sharpie to doodle the plaid. The crab is from LAB too. Inked and popped...and don't you just love those huge wiggle eyes. Title is from American Crafts lettering ( 3 varieties) Buttons to finish the edge...........and just HAD to put that adorable little parrot rubon on Michael's shoulder

Just returned from a family vacation to South Carolina, and this is my first layout from the trip. I thought the pictures were so cute and went with the patterned paper so well, I didn't want to "decorate" it too much. Used pop dots behind a couple of pictures for dimension. I found this rather old picture of my son, Craig (he's now 19). I cut out the face and framed it with the SYI sunflower. I added some George Triangle 2 between the layers for some added zip....inked and pop dotted the whole thing. Used the leaves from the tree on SYI, cut on cardstock and metallic. Flower stem is cut from Animal Crackers - glittery polka dot paper is from there too. Background paper is American Crafts Game Day. 3 Bugs on a Rug

I got the cutest little set of Sizzlet dies, cut them on white cardstock, and colored them with watercolors. I wanted to use them in a scrapbook page......and I had this great bug wrapping paper. Found some old pictures of Craig, DJ, and Evan playing on the porch with a turtle...and here is the result. Added a SYI caterpillar and a Pooh and Friends turtle to the mix and attached all with pop-dots. Paper is DCWV Animal Crackers.....chipboard/sticker title.

A while back, someone made a card with mason jars depicting what little boys and girls were made of......I loved it! It stayed in the back of my mind until I got an idea of how to make a layout with this concept. I used lots of Cricut cartridges on these pages.

Baby Boy: Paper is from the Bambino collection (Daisy D's) and the checked paper is American Crafts. Used SYI for the jars, cut once regular cut on brown and acetate....once on brown silhouette. The cap is cut from gold foil. The snake is from Animal Kingdom....the snail is hand-done (I so need Walk in my Garden.....)....and the puppy dog tails are hand cut/decorated as well. Jar labels and "are made of" are computer generated, cut out with decorative edging scissors and inked. "Little" is Mickey font...."Boys" is Pooh font (Marker). I added a few buttons here and there. The baby head is Doodlecharms as is the puppy. The puppy is cut on black blackout, brown regular, and tan shadows. Mouth is hand-drawn and his cheeks are inked. Wiggly eyes on baby and puppy.

Little Girl: Paper is Sweet Baby Jane Collection from Daisy D's. Sugar is snow glitter, spice is red glitter, and everything nice is a butterfly punch, a heart rub-on, and a George flower inked with gel pens. Labels and "are made of" are done the same way......"little" is Pooh font....."girls" is Alphalicious. Added some flower shaped buttons here and there. Baby head from Doodlecharms and also the cat. Cut dark pink blackout, light pink regular cut...and dark pink layers. Chalked cheeks on both and added wiggly eyes.

Kati and Craig shooting basketball in our driveway. They play almost every evening. I like how the pictures were easily placed into a collage. Basketballs are adhesive felt cut with George....everything else was cut from patterned paper.

A new layout featuring my nephew, Hunter. I found these great felt magnetic picture frames at the Dollar Tree, removed the magnets, and they became the foundation for this layout. Paper is double sided cardstock by DULCE Vintage Polka Dots and Art Box Art Lines. The letters for Hunter are ZooBalloo, cut triple and glued together, embellished with some dimensional paint. The puzzle pieces are from an old puzzle I painted and attached with pop dots. The ribbon with that great saying is from American Crafts ( a Big Lots "treasure".) Added a strip of rick rack too.

Emme Wants a Cracker!

My niece Emme loves crackers. Her parents try to limit her addiction; however, Papaw is a supplier! All lettering is Keystone...cut at base and shadow. Polka dots are from a regular hole punch...then glued (I need to get a life, I know!). The letters in Emme are staggered with pop dots under altering letters. Crackers are circles from George, cut from Bazzill, trimmed with decorative edge scissorts, inked in Chocolate Brown ink, and embellished with a Sharpie. Top layer is attached with pop dots. Striped paper is Bo Bunny...cardstock is Bazzill...embellishment is plain, old yellow rickrack and buttons.

Kati going to prom last spring. I really wanted to make a paper doll of her in that cute polka dot dress. I cut the doll at 4 1/2" on blackout...then I used the Cave Girl's hair...embellished with bronze gel pen and ink. The dress is the hula girl's bra-top and the prom girl's dress (handtrimmed to make it shorter and I cut the top portion of it off as well.) I cut these double - one in white and one in pink. I used a standard hole punch in the white layer and then ran it through the cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots folder. Added a big pink bow at the waist and some earrings. The shoes are the Prom Girl's with some handtrimming to make a heel for them. I did her face myself and used some gel pen accents...chalked the cheeks. And she had to have some nail polish. All the paper is DCWV from a variety of stacks.....lettering is from various punchouts/ stickers that I had in my stash. The trim is a clearance find at Wal-mart. Flower was in the "closet" too...can't remember where I got it.

Popcorn!

Our cousins, Trey and Dylan, watching Kati play basketball. I used the search feature on on the Cricut messageboards for popcorn and someone with a talent for looking at things rather differently decided that the scoop of ice cream on Doodlecharms (turned upside down) looked like popcorn. Correct! I cut lots of popcorn kernals at 1", 1 1/2", 1 1/4", 2" and 2 1/2" using a Marcella by K Fresh paint pad....this worked great because each paper is 2 shades of yellow - one on each side. Then I stacked them together in groups of 2, 3, or 4, alternating the yellow shades, and inked with brown ink and a q-tip. Did I mention this was somewhat time consuming??? The popcorn bag is the tag foundation from Doodlecharms, cut double, set with pop strips between the layers, inked, and embellished with a red paint pen and popcorn. For the popcorn in the bag, I alternately glued one on the back piece, then one on the front to give it some dimension. Letters are Pink Paislee "Holly Doodle" Plaid paper is from DCWV Animal Crackers, striped paper is Bo Bunny.

First Football Game

My two teens love their youngest baby cousins, Bo and Emme. They like nothing better than to take them out and about with them. This layout is Emme's 1st football game....her hometown v. our hometown. And she came to watch Craig perform in the band.

Printed paper is from Animal Crackers (DCWV) and the football field was from the scrap pile....I'd cut off the information. I used the baby head from Doodlecharms, cut at 4 " on blackout.....I used white curling ribbon to decorate it. Lettering is from George. I had a football sticker set laying around and used a few to finish it off along with some random chipboard pieces.

My niece, Sarah. The papers for this layout came from a monthly kit I receive from Scrap Room Cafe. I used the button embellishments that come with it to add dimension. Lettering is George....cut in patterned paper and once in shadow. Also used those wonderful George flowers that I wouldn't know how to scrap without!

My husband gripes that I never make him anything when I create. So I made him a Valentine (which you can't see as it is slightly naughty.....) and this page as a tribute to him. Alphalicious for the lettering....used some glass dots, and ribbon, and great Heidi Grace flowers which matched exactly with brown brads. The orange and brown papers were from "the closet" and they had no information on the back. I really like to put photo corners on pictures for interest.

Homecoming

My daughter was nominated for Homecoming Queen at her middle school. I'm just now getting around to scrapping it! Used Alphalicious for the year and the crown/some glittery stickers for the title. Added lots of sparkly brads and the photo corners and rosettes were hand cut from patterned paper. Oh, yes....the school colors are red and black!

Me, my sisters, my daughter, and my niece on Mom and Dad's porch. Everything came from a monthly kit I purchased from Scrap-Room.com....I can't remember the name of the collection. I added some paper flowers attached with brads and used decorative edged scissorts to create the solid borders.

Bo is One!

My nephew Bo received a ride-on John Deere tractor for his birthday. That was my inspiration for this scrapbook page. The little "Bo" is made with PPDU, but all the clothes and hat are hand cut. I used basic cuts from the cartridge and cut around them. He was the first doll I tried with PPDU. Lettering is Alphalicious.

Sock It To Me!

My first layout of 2009! The only thing my daughter Kati asked for this Christmas was a sock monkey. Here is her scrapbook page with her monkey, Bob! (She got sock monkey slippers too!)
Papers are Daisy D's Bambino collection and I just pieced the different designs together on brown cardstock. Then I used a strip of banana paper for the upper/lower borders and trimmed with some yellow ribbon. Attached a red ribbon and bow to the side and used Keystone for the letters.
The sock monkey is my design! I used paper doll dress up - cut 2 brown figures at 4 1/2" and one ivory one, using blackout. I glued them all together, rounded off the ivory hands, and trimmed the brown bodies hands/feets so the ivory would show. I cut a 1" and 1 1/2" oval one from George in ivory and a 1" and 1 1/2" oval two from George for the mouth and bottom. The tail was the monkey on Zooballoo....cut at 4"1/2 on Layers/Shadow in brown and ivory and then hand trimmed until I liked the look. It was glued betweent the body pieces. The hat was the top third of the pilgrim boy's hat in ivory with a brown band from the same hat. The pompon was made from crochet yarn. The eyes are Favorite Findings buttons, and I drew the facial details. And we had to put his bottom on to match the doll! We love him at our house!

This is my son on Christmas morning....in his Homer Simpson p.j.'s. It was his idea to print out a coloring book picture of Homer on cardstock, watercolor it, and attach it with Pop Dots. And it was a good idea!

Berry Pickin'

Here is a new layout - makes 5 for January-met my goal YEAH!!! Pictures are of my daughter, Kati, picking blackberries in our yard this summer. Paper is Making Memories....I like the scalloped edge papers a lot. Used Alphalicious for the title, vine is ZooBalloo cut once at normal, once at silouhette, glued offset, and inked. The berries are 1" circles from George with circles from a plain old hole punch attached. I used the insets from the silhouette vine to make the leaves. Those blackberries are still in my freezer waiting for a big snow.....I'll get them out and make a cobbler to remind us of warmer days.
